City Council

Maize City Council

The City of Maize is a City of the Second Class and operates under a Mayor–Council–Manager form of government. The Mayor is elected to a four-year term, and each Councilmember also serves a four-year term. Terms are staggered so that every two years, the Mayor and two Council seats are up for election.

City Council service is considered a part-time role, and most Councilmembers maintain full-time employment in addition to their civic duties.

Regular Maize City Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Maize City Hall Complex, located at 10100 W Grady Avenue. Special or continued meetings may be scheduled as needed. All meetings, except for those in executive session, are open to the public in accordance with Kansas law. Executive sessions may be held to discuss items of a legal or personnel nature, as defined by state statute.

City Council meetings are live-streamed and available for replay at the City of Maize YouTube channel.

The City Council conducts official city business through votes on ordinances, resolutions, zoning and platting requests, permit applications, reports, and other agenda items.

The City of Maize adopts an annual budget and also oversees the administration of the Maize Park Cemetery District.
