Legal Notices & Publications

The City of Maize has adopted Charter Ordinance no. 34-25. This ordinance exempts the City from state law K.S.A. 12-1651 and replaces it with local rules on the same topic. It allows the City Council to choose where the City publishes its legal notices.

Under this authority, the City Council has designated the City’s official website as the “official city newspaper” for publishing legal notices. Any legal notice that state law requires to be published in the official city newspaper will be published on the City’s official website.

Some state laws still require notices to be published in other places. When state law requires publication somewhere other than the official city newspaper, the City will publish the notice in that required location.

In short: legal notices that would have appeared in a traditional newspaper will now appear on the City’s official website, except when state law specifically requires a different publication method.
