Planning & Zoning

The Planning & Zoning Department helps guide the growth and development of the City of Maize. Our goal is to ensure that new projects support a safe, attractive, and sustainable community while preserving the character of our city.

Comprehensive Development Plan

What We Do

The Planning & Zoning Department is responsible for:

  • Reviewing development proposals and site plans.

  • Administering zoning regulations and the zoning map.

  • Processing rezoning requests, variances, and conditional use permits.

  • Coordinating subdivision and platting processes.

  • Supporting long-range planning through the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

  • Assisting residents, developers, and businesses with zoning questions.

Why Zoning Matters

Zoning helps organize land use in a way that balances community needs, protects property values, and ensures compatibility between neighborhoods, businesses, and industry. By managing land use, the City works to:

  • Promote orderly growth.

  • Protect public health and safety.

  • Preserve neighborhood character.

  • Plan for future housing, commercial, and industrial development.

Planning Commission & Board of Zoning Appeals

The City of Maize Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals review development requests and make recommendations to the City Council. These citizen boards play a key role in shaping the future of Maize.
