City of Maize Invites Community to “Light the Sky” Celebration on July 3

The City of Maize, in partnership with the Maize Recreation Commission, is excited to invite residents and visitors to its annual Light the Sky celebration on Thursday, July 3. This family-friendly event promises an evening full of entertainment, activities, and patriotic spirit as the community comes together to celebrate Independence Day.

The festivities will kick off with the “Rollin’ Into the 4th – Parade on Wheels,” where participants of all ages are encouraged to decorate bikes, scooters, wagons, strollers, and power wheels in red, white, and blue. The parade offers a fun and creative way for families to show their holiday spirit while taking part in a festive community tradition.

Throughout the evening, attendees can enjoy a wide range of activities designed for all ages, including lawn games, inflatables, face painting, and friendly competitions. There will be plenty of opportunities for families to relax, play, and connect with neighbors.

Sports fans won’t want to miss the International Soccer Watch Party, featuring live streaming of major matches on a large outdoor LED screen. With Kansas City hosting international teams just a short drive away, the watch party adds a unique, global element to the celebration.

In honor of America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, guests can also participate in the USA 250th Trivia Challenge, testing their knowledge of the nation’s history in a fun and engaging way.

The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display beginning at 9:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, bring lawn chairs or blankets, and stay through the finale as the City of Maize quite literally “lights the sky.”

This event is free and open to the public, offering a perfect opportunity for the community to gather, celebrate, and kick off the Fourth of July holiday together.
